About Us

A Movement Born from Passion, Driven by Community

The Foundation for Safer Schools began with one person's unwavering commitment, but it has grown into a community-wide movement to restore what every child deserves: the pure joy of learning in a safe environment.

Operation Restore Childhood Joy isn't just our program it's our promise to families, educators, and communities across the nation.

Our Story

Remember when school was a place of wonder, not worry? When the hardest thing about Monday morning was waking up early, not wondering if you'd be safe? We do too and we're committed to bringing that feeling back.

Founded three years ago in North Idaho, the Foundation for Safer Schools emerged from a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves to experience childhood joy without fear. What started as one person's mission has become a collaborative effort bringing together educators, parents, community leaders, businesses, and advocates who refuse to accept that fear has become part of the school experience.

Our Founder's Vision

Amy Schell, Founder & President

"I've spent over a decade as an educator and years protecting families through insurance programs. I've seen firsthand how fear can rob children of their joy and parents of their peace of mind. That's why I founded the Foundation for Safer Schools not just to make schools safer, but to restore the confidence, joy, and wonder that should define every child's educational experience.

This mission is more than a goal it's my unwavering commitment to protecting our future. But I knew from day one that this couldn't be a solo mission. Real change happens when communities come together. That's why Operation Restore Childhood Joy is built on collaboration, partnership, and the collective power of people who care deeply about our children's future.

Starting here in North Idaho and expanding nationwide, we're proving that when communities unite around child safety, we can create environments where learning thrives and childhood joy is restored one student, one school, one community at a time."

Our community

We don't work alone we work alongside:

Educators who see the daily impact of school safety on learning
Parents who deserve peace of mind when they kiss their children goodbye
Community Leaders committed to protecting our most vulnerable
Businesses investing in the future of our communities
Students whose voices matter in creating environments where they thrive
Advocates spreading awareness and driving change

Together, through our network of dedicated supporters, we're building a nationwide movement that puts childhood joy back at the center of education.

What Drives Us

Every decision we make is guided by three questions:

  1. Will this help a child feel safer at school?
  2. Will this restore joy to the learning experience?
  3. Will this empower communities to create lasting change?

If the answer is yes, we move forward together.

We commit to: ✓ Listening to the communities we serve
✓ Providing education, awareness, and preparedness that works

✓ Never losing sight of why we started: to restore childhood joy
